Electrical Installation condition report
Electrical Installation Condition Reports
The best way to know whether your electrics are safe is to get a qualified electrician to carry out a test and inspection report (electrical installation condition report).
In the UK, this should be done every 10 years for a domestic property, every 5 years on a rented property or upon a change of occupancy, and more frequently for business premises.
If you haven’t had it done lately, it’s really worth getting a quote. For the small cost you lay out, the peace of mind is priceless! As a trusted Electrician in Isleworth, we specialise in electrical-installation-condition-reports in Richmond, ensuring your home or business remains safe, compliant, and protected.
What does an Electrical Installation Condition Report Involve?
During an electrical inspection we carry out both visual checks and electrical tests.
Visual checks include looking at sockets and lights to check for damage or deterioration, checking the fuse box to ensure it is in good condition and complies with safety regulations, and inspecting wiring and earthing.
Electrical tests involve putting an electrical current into a circuit to measure the resistance of the earthing, checking the insulation of the wiring, ensuring the wires are correctly connected (polarity), and verifying that the RCD (trip switch) operates within the correct time and specifications.
We provide a full written PDF test report detailing our findings, which can be supplied to insurers, letting agents, or tenants if required.
If we find anything that isn’t safe, we take photos and attach them to the report so you know exactly what the issues are. We’ll also provide a free, itemised quote for any recommended remedial work.

How often should I get my electrics tested?
In a normal house you should have them tested every 10 years.
In a rental property your should have an electrical inspection every 5 years or on change of occupancy. This is now a legal requirement as of 1st June 2020.
A property should also ideally be tested before being sold so that the buyers know the condition of the electrics.
